GAB CREEK AZUCAR MARRON
(PKR Primavera Brio X LBF Gay Enchantment)
2008 buckskin filly, 100% Foundation Morgan

Meet Gab Creek Azucar Marron, "brown sugar" since she appears to be a brown buckskin. We call her Sugar. She's such a bright, energetic mare and has to investigate everyone, equine and human! Sugar is 100% Foundation Morgan breeding.

LBF GAY ENCHANTMENT
(H-Ken X LBF Gay Enchantress)
1997 bay mare, 100% Foundation Morgan

"Mandy," the smallest of our mares at 14h, is the alpha mare. Clearly the leader, she is cat-quick and learns so fast. She has Old Government Remount lines on top and the bloodlines today called "Working Western" on the bottom. Yet she also carries crosses to Jubilee King and Flyhawk. The produce of Mandy bred to Brio carries at least six crosses to Gay Mac, which in turn means an equal number of crosses to Daniel Lambert through Gay Mac's dam, Dewdrop--on just this one line! Mansfield blood is almost beyond counting in this cross. Mandy's double Fleetfield lines to Goldfield strengthen the Government breeding, and the double crosses to Montcrest Sellman tie in beautifully with her line to Warhawk. All three major sons of Justin Morgan are represented in the pedigree of these foals. Mandy is 100% Foundation Morgan breeding.

We purchased Mandy as a yearling from Polly Smith of Little Brook Farm in VT. When we got Mandy home we really fell in love with everything about her-her personality, her tractable disposition, and her quick mind. She was the fastest horse to learn something I have ever trained. It was always like, "So is that all you want me to do?" I have enjoyed showing off with her in the aisle of the barn for visitors who all want to know how you teach a horse to come to you without touching her, to the off side, to the tailgate of a pickup truck and to have her stand there while you climb down on her. Well, in Mandy's case, you don't. She taught herself.

Mandy is all business about everything. I have ponied young stock on her. She has always been in a halter or a hackamore and will stop on the pull and slack with one hand. Her foals have been the same way about people and training. She is, all in all, just a wonderful creature.

GAB CREEK GAY MASHANTA
(Primavera Valdez X Rose Hill LaPapillon)
1995 chestnut mare, 100% Foundation Morgan

Shanta is a full sister to our stallion PKR Primavera Brio. She is a deep-bodied, well-coupled mare whose appearance makes a strong case for the Morgan contribution to the origins of the Quarter Horse. Shanta has the potential to be a reiner. Her top line barely moves when you watch her canter at liberty. She was trained to drive by a former Morgan World Champion.

Shanta's pedigree, like that of Brio, is representative of Sherman, Woodbury and Bulrush. The blood of Valdez and Rose Hill LaPapillon trace to those famous three through Gay Mac, Mahan Field, Deerfield Challenger, Cap's Com-ette, and Hylee's Cinnabar, through The Admiral, Daniel Lambert and Ethan Allen III. Shanta is 100% Foundation Morgan breeding.

March 2009- WAR MARES TAKE ON NEW ROLE- Shanta and Althea, veterans of the Colorado, Wyoming, Montana adventure of last fall, on their first outing as a team in heavy harness together. Here they are pulling the breaking sled at a fast clip with their new custom made harness designed to let them move heavy logs, plow the garden, pull the sled or a wagon and use all that power without hurting themselves. John is planning to use the team at the saw mill this spring. The power that two full grown, mature, heavy Morgan horses generate has to be experienced to be believed. Here they are in step, hind ends engaged, mouths closed and on the bit!! Dr. Scott Hancock is driving. He assisted with getting proper collar fit and put us in contact with harness makers in Ohio. Dr. Hancock practiced vet medicine in Ohio among the Amish for many years and is now here in Georgia.

GAB CREEK ROSADO
(PKR Primavera Brio X LBF Gay Enchantment)
2002 chestnut mare, 100% Foundation Morgan

"Rosie" is the first of three line bred offspring of Brio. Her dam "Mandy" is a granddaughter of Gay Vaquero, a Nelsen-bred horse of similar lines to Primavera Valdez, so this cross is true "line breeding". She is 100% Foundation Morgan breeding. John made the mistake of picking her up every day for three weeks when she was a foal and fell in love with her. Born a bright red chestnut, she turned black chestnut but bleaches to liver every summer. While her dam is a flat 14h she got height (is 14.3h) and a chiseled head from Brio. As Joyce says she has always thought whatever John says was ok and is thus willing to do anything and would come in the house and make herself a peanut butter sandwich if she had hands.

Rosie's dam is the "Queen" (alpha mare), so "Rosie" is the "Princess" and is a dominant horse. John took her to a church "Trunk or Treat" at Halloween and all these barefooted little children were standing next to her reaching in the saddle bags for candy; the Great Pumpkin was no big deal either. In the spring of 2008 John took her to a Bob King Cow Work clinic and she was really a green horse and had NEVER seen a cow. Bob said to ride her into the herd and move a heifer out so John rode her in soft, she hooked on to a cow, and Bob said "obviously John has a lot of experience with livestock". John was thinking "no, what we have here is right out of Dances With Wolves, when one Sioux Warrior says 'he must be a mighty warrior' and the other says 'no, he is just a stupid white man with a smart horse'. John can call her by name out of the herd and have her come just like a dog. She is a special one.

REFERENCE MARE

ALTHEA MORO
(Cameron of Quietude X Misty Morning Dew)
1995-2022 chestnut mare, 100% Foundation Morgan

Althea Moro is a highly-concentrated Brunk-blood mare tracing through Criterion to Jubilee King, and through Super-Rey Movita to Moscovia, on BOTH sides of her pedigree. Totally unflappable, she has heavy bone, short cannons, and is powerfully built. Because of Althea and Brio both being foaled from very senior sires and dams, their offspring are heavily linebred Brunk foals with the oldest blood up close. With Brio's refinement and Althea's heavy bone, they are exceptional foals. Althea is 100% Foundation Morgan breeding.
